In podcast 18 I'm joined by professor of sociology Clif Flynn to talk about themes in his excellent book, Understanding Animal Abuse: A Sociological Analysis, which has just been published by Lantern Books.
Clif Flynn, Ph.D. is Professor of Sociology and Chair, Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Women's Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He has published numerous articles and chapters on animal abuse and its relation to human violence. Dr. Flynn is a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics, Oxford, England. He is also a Fellow of the Institute for Human-Animal Connection, Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. Dr. Flynn is past chair of the section on Animals and Society of the American Sociological Association.
His "Animals and Society" sociology course won the Humane Society's Best New Animals and Society Course in 2001.
Dr. Flynn is the editor of Social Creatures (Lantern Books, 2008), one of the first anthologies in Human-Animal studies, and author of the recently released book, Understanding Animal Abuse: A Sociological Analysis (Lantern Books, 2012). Understanding Animal Abuse can serve as the main text for a course on animal abuse, or a supplementary text for courses in human-animal studies. It would also be an excellent resource for professionals working in fields dealing with animal abuse.
